My Little Dancing Queen: How Simple Moments Become Our Favorite Family Traditions

Hey my loves!! Okay, so you guys know how much I love sharing the little moments that just hit different, right? The ones that kinda sneak up on you and then suddenly you’re like, “whoa, this is everything.” Well, this one with Stella and our new favorite dance is seriously melting my heart and I just had to talk about it more bc it’s just so good. I’m still smiling thinking about it, ngl.

You probably saw the little video, and if you didn’t, go check it out! It’s just Stella and me, doing our thing. And the thing is, I didn’t even teach her this dance. Like, at all. I was just kinda grooving to the music, doing my own silly little moves, and then I look over and there she is, right beside me, mimicking every single thing I’m doing. My heart just exploded, you guys. I swear, it’s like she just knew. She just *felt* the vibe and jumped right in. My little dancing queen, for real. It was the most pure, organic moment and I just knew it was gonna be one of those core memories we talk about forever. :,)

The Magic of Unplanned Moments

It’s funny, bc as a mom, I feel like we spend so much time planning, right? We plan the meals, the outings, the bedtimes, the playdates. And don’t get me wrong, that’s all super important and keeps our world from falling apart hahah. But then there are these moments, these totally unplanned, spontaneous little bursts of joy, that just hit different. And they always seem to be the ones that stick with you the most. Like, I could have tried to teach her a whole choreographed dance, and it probably would have been cute, but it wouldn't have had that same magic. This was just… us. Being us. And that’s the best kind of magic, isn’t it?

I think sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to create these perfect, Instagram-worthy moments, but the truth is, the most beautiful things happen when you just let go and let life unfold. When you're not trying too hard, when you're just present. That’s when the real memories are made. And it’s usually in the most mundane places too, like in the kitchen while I’m making dinner, or in the living room while we’re just hanging out. Those are the moments I live for, tbh.

Kids Are Always Watching (and Learning!)

It’s also such a huge reminder that our kids are always watching us. Always. Even when we think they’re not paying attention, they are soaking everything in. Every little thing we do, every word we say, every move we make. And in this case, every dance move I made! Hahah. It makes you wanna be a good example, right? Not just in the big things, but in the little things too. Like, if I’m dancing around and being silly, they see that joy and they wanna be a part of it. If I’m laughing, they wanna laugh. It’s like they’re little sponges, just absorbing all the energy we put out.

And it makes me think about how much I want my girls to grow up feeling free to express themselves, to be silly, to dance like no one’s watching (even when mom is totally watching and filming bc it’s too cute not to!). I want them to know that it’s okay to be joyful and spontaneous and to just let loose. And I guess the best way to teach them that is to show them. To *be* that. So yeah, if you see me doing a little jig in the grocery store, just know I’m setting an example for my girls. Or maybe I just really like the music. Idc, it’s fine hahah.

Our New Favorite Family Tradition

So now, whenever that song comes on – you know the one! – it’s like an automatic signal. Stella just lights up, I light up, and we just start doing our dance. It’s become our thing. Our little tradition. And it’s my absolute favorite. It’s not just a dance anymore, it’s a moment of connection, a little burst of happiness that we share. And it’s so simple, but it means sm to me.

It also reminds me of all the other little traditions we have, big and small. Like our Friday night pizza and movie night, or our Sunday morning pancake breakfasts. Or even just the way Tanner always gives the girls a special hug before bed. These aren’t grand gestures, but they’re the threads that weave our family together. They’re the things that make our house feel like home, and our family feel like *our* family. And I think that’s what makes life so rich, you know? It’s not about the big, expensive things, it’s about these consistent, loving, joyful moments that you share together.

Lean Into the Joy, Mama!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this whole experience, it’s to just lean into the joy. Don’t overthink it. Don’t worry if you look silly. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect. Just feel the moment, be present, and let yourself be happy. Your kids will pick up on that energy, and they’ll join you. And those are the moments you’ll cherish forever. The ones where you’re just laughing and dancing and being together, without any agenda or pressure.

So next time a song comes on that makes you wanna move, just do it! See what happens. Maybe you’ll start your own little family dance tradition. Maybe your kids will surprise you with their own moves. Whatever it is, I promise it’ll be worth it. Bc these little moments, these spontaneous bursts of connection and happiness, they’re the real treasures of motherhood. They’re what make all the hard stuff worth it. They fill your cup in a way nothing else can. I’m just so grateful for these girls and for all the joy they bring into my life. :,) ILY guys!!
